Hot weather continues over monsoon breaks — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines -- The country may continue to expect hot weather amid the rainy season due to monsoon breaks, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration said on Thursday.

Pagasa said in its 5 a.m. advisory that the southwest monsoon locally known as "habagat" briefly waned but would likely re-emerge early next week.

Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said generally fair weather conditions would still be prevalent in most areas in the country, particularly in the eastern section of Mindanao caused by the easterly winds.

However, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms would be likely over Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, South Cotabato, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat and Zamboanga Sibugay, he said.

The easterlies would also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Caraga and Davao Region within the next 24 hours, the state weather bureau said.

Meanwhile, localized thunderstorms are affecting Metro Manila and the rest of the country where partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated downpours or thunderstorms could be experienced, Pagasa said.
