(UPDATE) STRONG Group Athletics (SGA) is leaving no stones unturned in its quest to win this year's William Jones Cup cage crown after tapping the services of playmaker RJ Abarrientos and Gilas naturalized player Ange Kouame.
The 24-year-old Abarrientos is expected to add quickness and backcourt stability as he teams up with fellow Japan B.League Asian quota import Kiefer Ravena for SGA.
Abarrientos is fresh off a stint with the Shinshu Brave Warriors this past season in the B.League where he averaged modest numbers of 7.8 points, 2.3 assists and 1.7 rebounds in 49 games.
On the other hand, the 6-foot-11 Kouame is fresh off a stint with Chartres in France where he averaged 10.4 points and 6.5 rebounds in 27 games.
Kouame's vast international experience will come in handy for Strong Group as he's set to team up with former San Miguel Beer import Chris McCullough, who'll be reinforcing the Charles Tiu-mentored squad in the annual cage tournament slated this July 13 to 21 in Taiwan.
So far, Strong Group already has Filipino Australian Jordan Heading and Caelan Tiongson in the roster.
The Philippines last won the Jones Cup crown in 2019 under the Mighty Sports club team, which was handled also by Tiu.
