THREE Bulacan State University College of Engineering (BulSU-COE) mentors, engineers Marriane Calayag, Ivy Mar Ramos and Hazel Caparas, presented their respective papers at the 2024 Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) Annual Conference and Expo held in Montreal, Canada on May 18-21, 2024, BulSU President Teddy San Andres informed.
Caparas presented her study titled "A Production System Analysis to Reduce the Cost of Non-Conformity in a Paper Bag Process using Six Sigma DMAIC Methodology" under the Manufacturing Organizations 1 session with a track on Operational Excellence – Lean and Six Sigma.
Her presentation earned the Best Paper award, recognizing her outstanding research in
manufacturing process improvements for paper bag production.
On the other hand, Calayag presented her research paper titled "Reducing Waiting Time in Local Diagnostic Clinic: An Application of Queueing Theory" under the Healthcare Work Systems session and Work Systems and Services track, at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal on May 20, 2024. The paper was co-authored by engineers Airi Sta Cruz, Amiel John Cueva and Jayrous Joshua.
Meanwhile, Ramos shared his paper titled "Determining the Effectiveness of Infectious
Waste Management of District Hospitals in Bulacan: A Basis for Infectious Waste Management System" in the Health Systems session and Quality Control and Reliability Engineering track. His co-authors include engineers Apple Mae Pajuelas, Maria Katrina Flores and Sir Roger Enriquez.
The paper highlighted the significant contributions to public health and safety particularly the management of healthcare waste, from generation up to transportation of infectious wastes.
