THE Mindanao State University System Athletic Association (MSUSAA) began on Friday, bringing together athletes from the university in various disciplines.
MSU President Basari Mapupuno formally opened the competition dubbed "7th Unity Games" in a ceremony attended by athletes and officials from the 12 participating campuses at the MSU-Gensan Gymnasium.
Mapupuno echoed the "One MSU" spirit in seeing athletes from across the university united as one family.
"This is a powerful personification of the One MSU spirit. My heart swells with immense pride seeing the athletes," said Mapupuno. "This year's athletic meet reignites the healthy competition, bringing together the athletes from across the system for the first time in five years."
"We may wear different colors and represent different campuses, but we share a common ground — a passion for sportsmanship, a relentless pursuit of excellence, and the unwavering spirit of One MSU," added Mapupuno.
Chancellor JD Usman Aragasi of MSU-Gensan and General Santos City Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao welcomed the athletes and officials during the ceremony.
In his speech, Aragasi emphasized the unity and collective strength of the MSU community, portraying the athletic competition as a celebration of shared values and sportsmanship that transcend boundaries.
"We are not just individual campuses, we are One MSU. We move together pushing boundaries and exceeding expectations. This competition is a testament of our collective strength showcasing diverse values and unwavering spirit that define the MSU experience," said Aragasi.
"MSUSAA is more than just an athletic game; it is a celebration of unity, it is a platform where we transcend boundaries through sportsmanship," added Aragasi.
Paulo Francisco Tatad, executive director of the Philippine Sports Commission, graced the opening ceremony.
"After five years, the MSUSAA finally returns. It is always amazing to see people from across all the campuses of the MSU System — especially the student-athletes — to come together to celebrate life and excellence in the spirit of sports. To all our delegations: you are here, you made it, you are already winners," said Tatad.
