THE Department of Education is set to implement the P30.56-billion Infrastructure for Safer and Resilient Schools (ISRS) Project to ensure the resilient recovery of disaster-affected schools and reduce disruption in the delivery of education services.
The five-year ISRS Project is a cornerstone of Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte's Matatag Agenda and is a collaborative effort with the Department of Public Works and Highways, according to a media release posted on the DEpEd website
The rollout comes after the green light from the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board and will be funded through an official development assistance loan from the World Bank.
The project aims to rehabilitate and reinforce school infrastructures impacted by disasters between 2019 and 2023, comprising 4,756 school buildings and 13,101 classrooms. It is expected to benefit 741,038 learners across 1,282 targeted schools.
The ISRS Project has four components: 1) Relatively Simple Works for School Infrastructure Recovery; 2) Relatively Complex Works for School Infrastructure Recovery to be implemented; 3) Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation; and 4) Contingent Emergency Response Component.
It also includes the improvement and strengthening of procedures and tools, as well as training to DepEd units to ensure the sustainability of the project outcomes.
The project will adopt the relevant Environmental and Social Standards under the World Bank's Environmental and Social Framework to avoid, minimize, reduce, or mitigate adverse environmental and social risks and impacts.
