Galanza eyes to extend Creamline's reign

TAKING down dynasties is as hard as keeping it alive and Creamline will have a chance to extend its supremacy in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.

Facing a familiar foe in the finals, Creamline overcame a first set blip to take down sister team Choco Mucho in four sets, 24-26, 25-20, 25-21, 25-16, in Game 1 of the finals last Thursday, May 9, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Keeping her cool in high-pressure moments in front of 17,457 spectators last Thursday, Jema Galanza put on a show with 20 points on 18 attacks and two blocks.

For Galanza, taking the psychological advantage in the finals is a plus as the Cool Smashers want to extend their dynasty.

"What we have is that we have the mindset of being a champion. It is difficult to be a champion in every conference. You can see that each one of us wanted to win, we want to win this season, and that is what we will do in every season," Galanza said after the game.

Tots Carlos backed up Galanza with 17 points, while Bea de Leon churned out 11 markers.

Knowing the capabilities of Choco Mucho, Galanza eyes to seal the championship in Game 2 on Sunday, May 12, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and not allow the Flying Titans to forge a winner-take-all Game 3.

"This is good for our morale, and this helps with our momentum, but this is not a time to celebrate, we just win one game and we need to finish this on Sunday, and we have to train again tomorrow," Galanza said.

Creamline seeks to take its fourth straight all-Filipino conference title, and eighth overall in the league.
