THE Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) will forge an alliance with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), a party spokesman said Monday.
With over 90 lawmakers, Lakas-CMD is the biggest party in the House of Representatives. The PFP, on the other hand, will have 50 of the country's 82 governors.
At a press conference, House Deputy Speaker and Quezon 2nd District Rep. David Suarez, Lakas-CMD spokesman, said the two parties share common values and ideologies and would formalize their alliance on Wednesday.
"We are nearing the midterm elections next year so it is vital for us to see these alliances not only in the national level but also the provincial and local levels as well," Suarez said in a mix of Filipino and English.
Lakas-CMD, he said, was open to any alliance for as long as it's based on shared ideals.
Marcos, during the oathtaking of new PFP members earlier this month, said the party is ready to work with different political parties to push its agenda of economic development and people's welfare.
Being the highest ranking government official in the party, the President is PFP chairman.
