House resumes session, focuses on oversight

THE House of Representatives will focus on its oversight functions as it resumes session today, April 29.

The House went on a break in March. Before it did, it had approved all the priority measures set for passage in June.

"Having effectively discharged our legislative duties, the House is positioned to enhance its commitment to oversight functions," Speaker Martin Romualdez said.

"The House's oversight functions will include monitoring and evaluating the implementation of laws and policies, ensuring accountability, transparency, and the protection of the public interest," the lawmaker said in a statement.

"Through rigorous oversight, the House will actively engage in scrutinizing government actions, addressing inefficiencies, and safeguarding the integrity of our democratic institutions," he said.

The House will prioritize within its oversight functions the prices of rice and other essential commodities, cybersecurity threats faced by government agencies, and "contentious issues concerning the West Philippine Sea."
