MANILA, Philippines: Warmer and more humid weather would be likely on Friday until the weekend as air temperature continues to rise, especially in urban areas, including Metro Manila. Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Tuguegarao City and the National Capital Region (NCR) would have temperatures of 38 C and 37 C respectively on Friday. He warned that a "dangerous" heat index could prevail in many areas in the country that could go somewhere between 44 C and 47 C. Pagasa said in its forecast that many areas could experience higher heat index, particularly in Pangasinan where temperatures could reach as high as 47 C. Heat indexes of 44 degrees to 46 C would likely be experienced in other provinces like Cavite, La Union, Palawan and Olongapo City, the state-run weather agency said.
Meanwhile, Pagasa said the easterlies -- winds coming from the east that pass through the Pacific Ocean and carry warm and humid weather -- are bringing partly cloudy to overcast skies with scattered rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country especially in the late afternoon or at night.
