MANILA, Philippines: Actress and TV host Kris Aquino penned a heartfelt message for her youngest child, Bimby Aquino Yap, who celebrated his 17th birthday in the US.
"No matter how much physical pain I endure daily, my heart overflows with love because of your caring, selfless, unconditional love," she wrote on her Instagram account @krisaquino on April 19, 2024 (Manila time).
"My one wish is for your character to remain strong, your values and integrity stay admirable, your respectful and polite manner unchanged, and your passion for learning will continue to inspire you to make the most of your education," she added.
In the middle of the celebration, Aquino admitted that her health was not where they hoped it would be.
"There's a lot I haven't shared with you about the current state of my health, primarily because my news has mostly been sad," she wrote, adding that she would just let her son's birthday pass before giving another health update.
To her son, she also wrote, "I'm sorry for showing weakness yesterday when I cried non stop because of my fear that I may not be around to be with you on your 18th birthday."
She also said she should remain grateful because despite five autoimmune conditions, three of them that are life threatening, her son has matured throughout the process.
"You're always ready to help my nurses and though I know you're also freaked, you still show calm and absolute faith in God when my BP [blood pressure] and heart rate reach scary high numbers.
"I love you not only during my lifetime or yours BUT definitely for eternity. You're my greatest achievement because of your capacity to love -- this early you've embraced your responsibility to take care of your kuya and since you were 11 years old, you've been so protective of me.
"Love doesn't die... please remember that. Happy Birthday to the love of my life," she ended.
In June 2022, Aquino left the country to fly to Houston, Texas to receive treatment for her rare autoimmune condition. Since then, however, she has been diagnosed with more life-threatening diseases. She said that her many allergies were one of the reasons why it has been challenging to find the right treatment for her.
