SEN. Christopher "Bong" Go helped about 500 displaced workers in Arayat, Pampanga as part of the government's efforts to support individuals facing economic difficulties.
On Thursday, March 14, the senator collaborated with Mayor Madir Alejandrino and Vice Mayor Bon Alejandrino in the distribution of grocery packs, masks, snacks, shirts, and balls for basketball and volleyball to the beneficiaries.
Some selected individuals also received bicycles, cellular phones, shoes, and watches.
"Do not thank us. We should be the ones thanking you. I will prioritize programs that will help our poor fellowmen," Go said in a speech in Filipino.
Representatives from the Department of Labor and Employment facilitated the provision of livelihood aid through its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (Tupad) program.
The Tupad program is designed to offer temporary employment to those who are disadvantaged, displaced, underemployed and seasonal workers, aiming to alleviate their current hardships by engaging them in community service and small infrastructure projects.
Go said he filed Senate Bill 420 to establish a system for providing short-term employment to eligible individuals from poor families.
He is also one of the authors and co-sponsors of Republic Act 11960 or the "One Town, One Product (OTOP) Philippines Act," which aims to "nurture the growth" of micro, small and medium enterprises nationwide.
On that same day, the senator joined a medical mission in Lubao, Pampanga led by Gov. Dennis "Delta" Pineda and Vice Gov. Lilia "Nanay" Pineda, where about 1,000 residents benefited.
The medical mission, which was held at Pineda Sports Complex, was aimed at providing basic health care services to the community.
Go lauded the Lubao local government for improving the well-being of their constituents and stressed the importance of joint efforts in bringing health care closer to the people.
