IN line with the celebration of women's month, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) signed an agreement with Connected Women to enhance the Philippines' digital landscape, emphasizing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for economic growth and empowerment.
Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual and Connected Women Chief Executive Officer Agnes Gervacio led the signing of a memorandum of understanding on Friday, March 8.
The collaboration covers cybersecurity and education on AI, among others, aligning with the goal of inclusivity and empowerment, especially for women.
"AI has the potential to significantly boost our economy by enhancing business efficiency, fostering innovation and unlocking new markets. This advancement benefits not just the corporate sector but also the broader fabric of our nation, the very people in our country, contributing to our collective prosperity," said Pascual.
He also emphasized the need to acknowledge the transformative role of AI as it also opens new career paths and necessitates a shift in the workforce's skills.
For its part, Connected Women committed to providing online skills development and remote work opportunities for women aligned with the government's inclusivity and empowerment goals.
Pascual also recognized Connected Women's role in developing the potential of technology, noting that its commitment to providing online skills development and remote work opportunities for women "is not only empowering but also transformative, fostering positive change across families and communities."
On the other hand, he said that AI solutions can also address critical challenges and streamline services in sectors like health care, education and agriculture.
Furthermore, the Trade chief said that the AI sector in the Philippines is witnessing considerable growth as seen in the increasing number of startups, research initiatives and businesses leveraging AI to innovate and solve complex problems.
"By taking a leadership role in AI, the Philippines can enhance its global standing, attract foreign investment and establish itself as a hub for innovation and talent. This ambition is about building a resilient and innovative economy for the future," said Pascual.
