FANS can expect a "faster and braver" Josh Ybañez in the UAAP Season 86 men's volleyball tournament which begins on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024.
Winning the Rookie of the Year, First Best Outside Spiker, and Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards last season, Ybañez said that he looks to improve on his play by going all out all the time.
"They can expect a faster and braver Josh and someone who has a bigger trust in his team," the ace player of University of Santo Tomas told reporters on Monday, February 12.
"I got off to a great start last year so I think I just need to sustain my performance. I will just do my best and go all out every game so I can contribute more to my team."
Small but terrible, the 5-foot-7 Ybañez led the Golden Spikers to the UAAP finals last year but bowed to the NU Bulldogs who swept the best-of-three title series.
Ybañez said UST aims to win the title this time.
"We were silver medalists last year so now we aim higher. We want to become champions and we're going to work on it," he said.
Ybañez knows that it won't be an easy task as he expects to be a marked man this season after an outstanding performance last year.
"I've been preparing for that [being a marked man]. If I'm struggling on the court, the team will be there to pick me up. I trust my teammates," he added.
