Heatwave swells Asia's appetite for air-conditioning

A record-breaking heatwave is scorching parts of Asia, driving a surge in demand for cooling solutions like air-conditioning. Despite being a common sight in some urban areas, only 15% of homes in Southeast Asia have AC. With forecasts predicting a significant increase in air-conditioning units by 2040, strains on local electricity capacity are expected to worsen. Myanmar and Thailand are already facing electricity challenges due to factors like low natural gas yields and attacks on infrastructure.
