The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) saw an increase in work generation to 3.1 billion person-days in 2023-24 from 2.96 billion in the previous year, despite nearly unchanged individual demand for work at 332.7 million. The number of households receiving work also rose by 5.76% to 230.4 million. However, in March, there was a significant decline in work generated, falling to 152.3 million person-days, and the number of households receiving work dropped to 13.4 million, down 23.4% from February.
