An RTI response from Indian Railways has disclosed that while bed sheets and pillow covers in AC coaches are washed after every use, blankets are only cleaned once a month or twice under specific conditions. The information has raised hygiene concerns among passengers, especially as housekeeping staff admit to only washing blankets when visibly dirty. Calls for improved practices, including the discontinuation of wool blankets, have intensified.
