To maintain law and order during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, the Pakistan Punjab government has imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi till October 17, prohibiting political assemblies and gatherings. The central government has also deployed troops in Islamabad and implemented strict security measures.
