NDA allies JDU and LJP have criticised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for discontinuing the two-hour break on Fridays for Muslim MLAs to offer namaz. They argue that it violates Constitutional principles of religious freedom. Sarma defended the decision, stating it was agreed upon by both Hindu and Muslim legislators in the Assam assembly's Rule Committee.
