Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma suggested a connection between a minor girl's rape in Dhing and land encroachment tactics. He claimed that increasing criminal activities scare indigenous Assamese people, causing them to leave their land. The prime accused in the case reportedly escaped from police custody and drowned.
