Sharad Pawar, the 83-year-old chief of NCP-SP and former Maharashtra Chief Minister, received the Z plus armed VIP security cover from the Centre due to threat assessments. The Union Home Ministry instructed the CRPF to undertake the task with 55 armed personnel, who are already in Maharashtra to provide the necessary protection.
