The Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee announced a statewide protest starting August 12 against the Centre's denial of special category status to Bihar. Bihar Congress chief Akhilesh Prasad Singh accused the Centre of betraying the state and criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for not securing the status. Protests include dharnas outside block and district magistrate offices on August 13 and 14.
