After being convicted, Ansari was disqualified as an MP, following which he filed a criminal appeal before the HC. Although he was granted bail on July 24, 2023, the high court had declined to stay his conviction in the case. Though Ansari was released from jail, his membership of Parliament was not restored. Later, he moved the Supreme Court which stayed his conviction. His Parliament membership was restored, and he also became eligible to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
