Shashi Tharoor (Congress) alleged that there has been a violation in the safety codes that resulted in the incident. He demanded compensation for the families. While saying that steps need to be taken up to clean the drains to prevent reoccurrence of such incidents, he also demanded a comprehensive inquiry into the matter.
