By Economic Times - 4 months ago
More than 20 Election Petitions have been filed in state high courts challenging the 2024 Lok Sabha election results across various constituencies. The grounds for these petitions varied from discrepancies in affidavits to allegations of vote manipulation. Key figures involved include former Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam, Union Minister Savita Thakur, and Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee. Some petitions demanded EVM and VVPAT verification. The cases have been spread across states like West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Assam. The HC may impose up to a six-year disqualification if malpractices are confirmed.
