On Monday, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh summoned SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal to personally appear and provide a written explanation regarding accusations that he did not adequately represent the sentiments of the Sikh community ("panth"). This follows apologies from rebel leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for mistakes made during their party's tenure from 2007 to 2017, including mishandling of sacrilege incidents and pardoning of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. The Akal Takht also seeks clarification from the SGPC on allegations of spending Rs 90 lakh on advertisements.
