Shankar Singh, an independent candidate and former Bihar MLA, is leading in the Rupauli bypoll election against the ruling Janata Dal (United). Singh, known for being the commander of the North Bihar Liberation Army, has a slim lead of over 1700 votes over JD(U)'s Kaladhar Prasad Mandal.
