Jharkhand: Chief Minister Champai Soren resigns, Hemant Soren stakes claim to form govt

By Economic Times - 3 months ago
Champai Soren resigned as Chief Minister of Jharkhand. Hemant Soren is set to return to the position after being forced to step down due to an Enforcement Directorate arrest in a money laundering case linked to a land scam. The Jharkhand Mukti Murchaled-led alliance legislators reached a consensus on the decision. Hemant was granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court on June 28, with no prima facie evidence supporting his arrest. He is poised to take oath as Chief Minister for the third time.
