The Congress has called for a halt to a proposed Rs 72,000-crore infrastructure project in Great Nicobar Island, citing grave threats to tribal communities and the ecosystem. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh highlighted concerns over forest land diversion, inadequate consultations, and violations of legal and constitutional provisions safeguarding indigenous groups. He demanded immediate suspension of clearances and impartial review by parliamentary committees.
