In the past three elections, Balasore has elected three MPs from three different parties. In 2009, it was Congress leader Srikant Jena; in 2014, it was Rabindra Kumar Jena of BJD and in 2019, BJP candidate Pratap Sarangi won this seat with a margin of 12,956 votes.
