Congress alleged that Bam was pressured due to pending cases against him, including a murder charge. This incident follows a similar defection of the Congress candidate in the Surat seat of Gujarat last week. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate described these actions as a "threat to democracy," accusing the BJP of coercing candidates and their proposers.
