Clear the decks for safe nuclear power

India is considering allowing private investment in nuclear energy, a key component of its path to decarbonising the energy sector. The government aims to grow nuclear capacity from 7GW to 22GW by 2031-32, but private investment is crucial. Small-modular-reactor (SMR) technologies, with lower costs, land, and time requirements, are expected to become the mainstay of the nuclear energy sector post-2030.
