Sugarcrete's material benefits, sweet R&D

By Economic Times - 9 months ago
The building and construction sector is the largest emitter of GHGs, accounting for 37% of global emissions. Historically, its progress has been around reducing buildings' 'operational' carbon emissions, but solutions to mitigate a building's 'embodied' carbon emissions have lagged. Sugarcrete, a regenerative material developed by researchers at University of East London, challenges the misconception that biomaterials have low structural performance.
