The Trinamool Congress has suspended Sheikh Shahjahan from the party for six years following his arrest by the West Bengal police. Residents of Sandeshkhali had accused him of sexual abuse and land grab, leading to violent protests. After being on the run for 55 days, he was arrested from a house in Minakhan, around 30 km away from Sandeshkhali.
