BJP MP Locket Chatterjee claimed the protests were spontaneous and not politically motivated, accusing Banerjee of protecting the accused, Shajahan Sheikh. Chatterjee demanded Sheikh's hanging, alleging Hindu women were targeted, and accused the TMC of sheltering criminals for votes. Banerjee had blamed the BJP for orchestrating the incident.
