Women's reservation bill: SC grants Centre 2 weeks to respond to Congress leader's plea

The Supreme Court has given the Centre two weeks to respond to a plea by a Congress leader for the immediate implementation of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act-2023, which seeks to reserve one-third of seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women before the general elections. The law was passed by the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on September 21, 2023, and will continue for 15 years, with the possibility of extension by Parliament.
