"You are Adivasis, BJP calls you Vanvasis": Rahul Gandhi at Majuli

By Economic Times - 10 months ago
Rahul Gandhi, during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam, highlighted the difference between how his party refers to tribals as 'Adivasis' while the BJP limits them to 'Vanvasis'. He explained that 'Adivasi' means the first citizens who came to the earth first, while 'Vanvasi' refers to those who stay in the forest. Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP for wanting tribals to stay in the jungle and depriving their children of education. He emphasized that the Congress wants to give back what has been taken from them, including land, forest, and water. Rahul Gandhi also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting Manipur despite the civil war-like situation there.
