The Congress strongly opposes simultaneous elections in India, stating that it undermines federalism and the Constitution's basic structure. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge demands the abandonment of this idea and dissolution of the high-powered committee led by former President Ram Nath Kovind. He emphasised that the government, parliament, and ECI should focus on respecting the people's mandate instead of diverting attention with undemocratic concepts like one nation, one election.
