"Aiming for stars when...": Abhishek Banerjee takes dig at Congress after its rout in Assam hill council polls

By Economic Times - 8 months ago
Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee mocks the Congress after its poor performance in the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council elections in Assam. Despite the TMC's first-time participation, it secured a higher vote share than Congress. Banerjee suggests that Congress' ambitious seat-sharing aspirations in West Bengal are like reaching for the stars when they couldn't hold their ground in their own 'backyard.' The BJP retained power in the council, winning 25 out of 30 seats, while the Congress drew a blank. The TMC, contesting for the first time, secured 7.63% of the votes.
