MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) placed the province of Catanduanes under Signal No. 1 for Tropical Depression "Nika," which entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility early morning on Saturday.
As of 10 a.m., the center of "Nika" was estimated to be at 1,145 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon.
In the weather bureau's first bulletin, Nika has maximum sustained winds of 55 km per hour (kph) near the center and central pressure of 1,004 hectopascals (hPa).
Its present movement is currently westward at 30 kph.
The weather bureau expects "Nika" to have storm signals of up to No. 3.
