KARL Eldrew Yulo and the Philippine pre-junior and junior gymnastics teams harvested medals on the first day of the ongoing 3rd JRC Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.
Karl Eldrew, younger brother of two-time Olympic champ Carlos, kick-started the national team's campaign on Friday as he bagged a gold medal in the Men's Artistic Gymnastics Junior Individual All-Around Event.
In last year's edition of the tournament, Yulo claimed six medals after ruling the parallel bars, vault, floor exercise and silver in the still rings apparatus.
He pocketed his two medals from the all-around and pommel horse events, winning silver and bronze, respectively.
This year, Yulo hiked his medals to two, after also leading the Philippine junior men's team to a silver medal in the team all-around event.
Meanwhile, Jacob Alvarez starred in the pre-junior division as he collected five gold medals on top of two silvers.
Alvarez topped the individual all-around, vault, floor exercise, horizontal bars and events still rings.
He clinched two silvers after finishing second in the pommel horse and parallel bars.
In the women's side, the Philippine pre-junior team placed fourth.
Yulo and the rest of the nationals are still competing for medals as of posting time.
