MANILA, Philippines -- University of Perpetual Help System DALTA snapped its two-game losing streak after escaping pesky Lyceum of the Philippines University, 89-83, in the NCAA 100 men's basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Saturday.
Perpetual had a two-point lead in the last 8.6 seconds of the fourth quarter, 75-77, courtesy of Mark Gojo Cruz's bucket.
However, Pirates' Jonathan Dialeg drained a long two that was initially called a triple to send the match into overtime, 77-all.
The Altas outscored the Pirates in the extra regulation, 12-6, courtesy of set-up plays for Jearico Nuñez, on which he made five points.
"After that shot of Dialeg in the fourth quarter, I told the boys to move on. Basketball is about moving on, they should move on from their mistakes, and make up for it. Then play another more in the overtime period," head coach Olsen Racela said after the game.
JP Boral led the scoring for the Altas with 18 points, while Chris Pagaran and Nunez, chipped in 16 and 15 markers, respectively.
John Abis made a double-double performance of 12 points and 10 rebounds to help.
Lyceum's Renz Villegas made 23 points, while John Barba and Jonathan Dialeg added 17, and 10 markers, each that all went to drain.
The Altas improved to a 6-8 win-loss card, while the Pirates fell to a 6-7 slate. NICOLE ANNE D.G. BUGAUISAN
