By Manila Times - 9 hours ago

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine national junior record holder Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh is all set for the prestigious 2024 World Aquatics (WA) Swimming World Cup, which will be held in three different venues.

The 18-year-old Mojdeh will lead the national swimming team's campaign in the world meet, featuring top swimmers from around the globe.

Dubbed as 'water beast,' Mojdeh is ramping up her training to peak condition ahead of the World Cup.

"We're expecting fierce competition, so we need to be physically and mentally ready. This is a fantastic chance for us to gain valuable experience and insights for future events," Mojdeh shared.

Mojdeh, a standout from the Behrouz Elite Swimming Team (BEST), is among the 16 swimmers who qualified in the Philippine Aquatics Inc. qualifying event at the Rizal Memorial swimming pool.

This marks her debut in the seniors division after a stellar juniors career.

She previously reached the semifinals of the World Juniors Swimming Championships in Lima, Peru, in 2022, and set national junior records in Netanya, Israel, in 2023.

"We're so proud of her. It's her first international tournament as a national team member in the seniors division. It's a great opportunity to hone her skills and learn from world-class swimmers," said BEST team manager Joan Mojdeh, Micaela's mother.

Mojdeh will compete alongside Xiandi Chua, Fil-American Cristina Miranda Renner, and Chloe Isleta in the women's division. The men's team includes Joshua Gabriel Ang, Miguel Barreto, Kyle Gerard Valdez, Rian Marco Tirol, Metin Junior Mahmutoglu, Rafael Barreto, Jerard Dominic Jacinto, Nathan Jao, Lucio Cuyong II, Raymund Paloma, Albert Jose Amaro II, and Robin Christopher Domingo.

Mojdeh will see action in the second leg of the World Cup in Incheon, South Korea, from October 24-26, and the third leg in Singapore from October 31 to November 2.

"We're grateful to the Philippine Aquatics Inc. for giving our young swimmers the chance to compete in this high-level competition," added Joan. TMT
