MANILA, Philippines — American-Nigerian import EJ Anosike and June Mar Fajardo formed a formidable frontline duo for San Miguel Beer, which hacked out a 107-102 win against Converge to grab a 2-0 bulge in their PBA Season 49 Governors' Cup quarterfinal series on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Beermen, who took Game 1, 102-95, are now just a win away from advancing to the best-of-seven semifinal series.
Anosike was especially unstoppable in the third quarter as the SMB reinforcement accounted for 17 of his team's 30 points in that stretch to grab a 78-72 lead heading into the last period.
The bullstrong SMB import went on to finish with 41 points and nine rebounds, while Fajardo had 15 and 16 boards.
Kris Rosales added 12, while CJ Perez had 10 and eight assists to make up for his 4-of-11 shooting.
Jalen Jones led Converge with 36 points and 12 rebounds.
