MANILA, Philippines — University of the East (UE) rolled to its third straight win after nipping National University (NU), 57-51, in the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Saturday.
Wello Lingonlingo and Ethan Galang came through in the clutch for the Red Warriors, who rose from fifth to fourth with a 3-2 slate.
Lingolingo drilled a trey for a 53-49 UE lead in the last 41.4 and a pair of free throws to re-stretch the lead back to four, 55-51, in the final 14 seconds.
Galang then sealed it for the Red Warriors with a block on Don Lim, drawing an intentional foul and making two freebies for the insurance and the final count with 9.7 ticks left.
Lingolingo finished with eight points while Galang notched five but it was John Abate who topscored for UE with 15 points on top of six rebounds.
Steve Nash Enriquez cashed in nine points for the Bulldogs, who suffered their fourth straight loss for a 1-5 slate, seventh in the 8-team league.
