MANILA, Philippines — Mapua University demolished San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 91-72, in the NCAA Season 100 men's basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Friday, Sept. 27.After a tough 81-96 loss against the Lyceum of the Philippines University last Tuesday, the Cardinals bounced back in dominant fashion against the Golden Stags.Cyrus Cuenco led Mapua with a career-high 26 points while shooting 4-of-7 from the 3-point area and 6-of-8 from the 2-point zone.Mapua only had a four-point lead at the halftime break, 39-35, but pulled away for good in third quarter, 65-48.The Golden Stags tried to pull a comeback in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter with a 12-0 run, 65-59, but the Cardinals regained their composure and dominated the match until the final buzzer."We learned some lessons every game we are leveling up, win or lose. We should keep leveling up, and take it one day at a time, and listen to what our coaches are saying and trust our teammates," Cuenco said after the game.
Mapua improved to a 4-2 win-loss card, while the SSC-R absorbed its fifth straight loss for a 2-5 record.
