MANILA, Philippines — Defending champ De La Salle returned to its winning ways with a 68-62 triumph over the still winless Far Eastern University in the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, September 25. Recovering from a tough 71-75 loss to the UE Red Warriors last Sunday, the Green Archers showed immense mettle as they held off the Tamaraws especially in the fourth. FEU recovered from a 13-point deficit in the first half and snatched a 56-55 advantage in the final 6:21 but La Salle responded with a 12-4 run to gain a 67-60 lead with 1:42 left. The run proved to be more than enough for the Green Archers to hang on and improved to 4-1, second place behind the still undefeated 4-0 UP Fighting Maroons. Mike Phillips logged 13 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks to lead La Salle which kept the cellar-dwelling FEU winless at 0-5.
