By Manila Times - 4 days ago
MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte told the House of Representatives' Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability that she would not attend the continuation of its investigation into her office's use of funds and asked lawmakers to end it "immediately." In a letter dated Sept. 23, 2024, Duterte informed Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua, the committee's chairman, that she would "not be attending the deliberation" and stated her reasons. Duterte, in connection with Manila 2nd District Rep. Rolando Valeriano last Sept. 3 said that verification could be easily done "through the accomplishment reports submitted by the OVP to support its 2025 budget proposal, and confirmed through various news reports, COA reports and postings on various social media platforms." CoA stands for Commission on Audit. "Clearly, the conduct of a formal inquiry or hearing on the matter is unnecessary", Duterte said. She also reiterated her request to end the investigation "immediately."
