JRU survives Arellano's late surge, takes second win
MANILA, Philippines — Jose Rizal University (JRU) survived Arellano University's (AU) late surge, 92-89, to take its second win in the NCAA Season 100 men's basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Center on Wednesday, September 25. The Heavy Bombers engaged the Chiefs in a tightly-contested ball game but the former detonated to a 12-2 bomb for an 84-74 advantage. Arellano fought back and got within two in the final 7.4 seconds following an Ernest Geronimo inside incursion in the game that had 11 deadlocks and 16 lead changes. A window remained open for the Chiefs to tie the count after Marvin Raymundo split his charities for just a 3-point Bombers lead but Renzo Abiera missed his triple attempt. Joshua Guiab banged 18 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals for the Heavy Bombers, who bounced back from their loss to the defending champs San Beda Red Lions and improved to 2-4 for ninth place. The Chiefs dropped to 1-5 for 10th and last.
