Groundbreaking held for desalination plant
MACROASIA Corp. (MacroAsia) on Wednesday broke ground on a seawater desalination plant project in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, that will be led by unit Summa Water Resources Inc. In a disclosure, MacroAsia said the project would be built by Summa Water's wholly owned subsidiary, CSWater Lapu-Lapu Inc. (CSWLL), as part of efforts to provide sustainable water management solutions and reliable water supply to the city of Lapu-Lapu. "This project is a vital response to the city's growing water needs," MacroAsia said. The project is being developed under a joint venture agreement for bulk water supply signed by Lapu-Lapu City, CS Water, and Summa Water in June 2019. The company received official notice to proceed from Mayor Junard Chan in May this year. The initial phase involves the construction of a 15 MLD (million liters per day) desalination plant in Punta Engaño and a 500 CMD (cubic meters per day) desalination facility on Olango Island. MacroAsia is engaged in aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul, ground handling, airline catering services, water delivery, and sewerage. It owns 60 percent of Summa Water through Allied Water Services Inc., one of its eight subsidiaries. MacroAsia shares fell 2.48 percent to 5.90 apiece on Wednesday.
