MANILA, Philippines — The UP Fighting Maroons manhandled the NU Bulldogs, 89-62, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, September 18 to go 3-0 in the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament. A 29-14 first quarter start set up UP's onslaught of NU as the Katipunan side led by as many as 39 points, 76-37, following a Harold Alarcon trey with 50 seconds left in the third frame. The Fighting Maroons stayed in control for the rest of the way to join the defending champs De La Salle Green Archers atop the team standings. Mark Belmonte and JD Cagulangan led the way for UP with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Jake Figueroa logged 11 points and four rebounds for the Bulldogs who fell to a 1-2 slate, tied with UE at the fifth spot.
